::It took a long time to pick the car up, then we had a lot of issues with our. The air condition worked intermittently the first time we drove the vehicle, the second time we drove out the a/c vents started smoking so we stopped using the a/c and that seemed to resolve the problem, but we were still stressed about the car's functional status the next few days. Defroster didn't work to get condensation off the windshield in rainy conditions, so the passenger had to intermittently wipe down the windshield. Car also had lots of loose sounding bits. Everyone at the agency was very nice, and they told us they would take the car out of commission until it was serviced, but it was still a somewhat unpleasant experience for our group to be stressed about our vehicle while visiting a foreign country.

::Nicely conditioned older vehicles. Reliable, equipped with necessities such as A/C. Used vehicles here seemed to be better maintained and equipped than what some brand name rental car companies provide in other countries in this area.

::We took a chance with AQ after carefully researching their reviews and prices compared to other companies. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a mistake. The positive: the car got us safely through our trip in one piece, and YES, we were able to successfully take our car across the border into Guatemala for a couple days to go to Tikal. Despite what other companies may say, you can take an AQ rental car across the border without issue provided you buy the permit ahead of time with AQ. However, this was the end of our success with the company. First, we were “upgraded” to a more expensive vehicle because there is a hidden stipulation that cross-border rentals must be 4-wheel drive and have a high ride height. This would be fair enough if it was stated online in the terms and conditions, but it is not. Hopefully this is an easy fix for AQ; knowing this ahead of the time of booking would have saved us some sticker shock on the rental cost and gas budget. Next, when we picked up the rental at the airport office, it was missing the border-crossing permit. They asked us to drive to their main office to pick up the permit, which was in the opposite direction we wanted to go and added about an hour of inconvenience for us. Secondly, we had a lot of minor vehicle issues that added up: broken radio, non-functional phone charging ports, broken passenger window controls, no cruise control, and a burnt-out tail light. We reported everything to AQ and were offered an airport shuttle at the end of our trip as a goodwill gesture in lieu of monetary compensation. Unfortunately, that promise was also a failure. No driver showed up at the scheduled time. After multiple calls and vague excuses blaming traffic from a well-known event, we were forced to arrange other, expensive, last-minute transportation to the airport at our own expense and stress, and we nearly missed our flight home because of this. We emailed all of this to the company to provide them an opportunity to rectify our experience with adequate compensation, but were only offered a coupon for “one free rental day” with them again – as if. The lack of accountability and poor communication at every stage of this rental made for a frustrating and stressful experience. We took a chance and it didn’t work out positively for us. Hopefully AQ can improve and people who decide to take a chance on them in the future will have a better experience. 2 stars instead of 1 because we are, in fact, still alive after our road trip.

::I recently rented a Nissan X-Terrra from AQ Belize Car Rental for 11 days. Though the vehicle was older, it was in good condition and served me well during my stay in Belize. The rental rates were competitive compared to other agencies. When I returned the vehicle, Maskall was extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend them!

::The staff were really polite helpful and professional. They were out of their way to make sure we were happy (and not waiting in the sudden downpour when it happened). The car was exactly as I booked. I took out separate collision waver insurance and there was no quibbles or drama re this or when returning the vehicle. It was my first trip to Belize and I was a bit nervous about renting a car. But like the rest of my trip it was smooth painless and I felt completely safe and happy. Thanks AQ :)
