::I recently rented a car from Belize Budget for one week. The check-in process was quick, and the staff was friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the first car I received was not just in poor condition, it was outright unsafe. I was given a very old Toyota crossover, likely from around 2010. Within just 20 miles of driving, the check engine light and another warning light came on. The car couldn’t go past 40 mph, and I had to press the brakes extremely hard just to get it to stop. It was raining at the time, which made the situation even more dangerous. I genuinely didn’t feel safe on the road and was shocked that this vehicle was part of their rental fleet, it belonged in a junkyard. I returned the car the next day and was given a 2020 Nissan Rogue. It was a major improvement, but it still had an oil change warning light on from the start, which raised additional concerns about how well these vehicles are maintained. The staff was professional and understanding throughout, which I appreciated. However, the condition of the cars especially the first on was alarming. Many vehicles at this location appeared old and heavily worn. I would have given 5 stars if not for the serious safety issues with the first car. For reference, I made the reservation through United Travel as I was flying with United Airlines.

::Vehicle was in terrible condition. Nissan Pathfinder with check engine light on, one tire with a slow leak, suspension was shot and transmission was slipping badly - it will fail soon. The staff was friendly and courteous, but this vehicle should not be rented to anyone before being properly serviced. Was planning on driving more, but we really only used it when we absolutely needed to go somewhere. Made for some very anxious driving as I had my family together. Pretty bad experience on an otherwise good visit to Belize City and area.

::What a wreck. Engine light on, airbags not working, tires were bald on our Kia Sarrento. One tire blew pretty quickly and was surprised it outlasted the transmission. Quicker to change the tire when it was missing lug nuts. “No other cars available without the engine light on”.

::1. Not the best quality of vehicles. - should be expected in Belize, we just had to lower our north American standards. 2. Additional insurance fees are highly recommended, almost enforced. - again, considering what vehickd you will likely to get, there is no way anyone can keep track of the amount of scratches and dings you will add on top of the existing ones. 3. Staff was amazing. - the first night we arrived we found that our reservation from another rental company did not have a vehicle for us. The lady that was closing the office accepted me as a walk-in and was able to get myself and my family into a vehicle. 4. We rented a car for 2 weeks. After week 1, the AC quit on the vehicle, and we asked to replace it. The gentleman in the office was extremely helpful and got us into a newer vehicles without any hassle or questions. At the end of the day I judge the service by how the staff handled issues that were not really in their control. For that I am going to rate this place with 5 stars despite a number of issues we've had. Thank you Budget staff, and keep up doing your best!!
