On 23 November 2023, I went to apply for a Guatemala visa, only to encounter unexpected hurdles outside the listed requirements. Despite confirming the necessary documents the previous day, I was informed today about an additional requirement—a six-month Mexican visa period. We already possessed a Mexican visa valid from October 12, 2023, to April 12, 2024, but the embassy wanted from November 2023, to May 2024. This information could have been communicated on previous day, saving us considerable time and effort. The inconvenience didn't stop there. Not only did we waste the entire morning preparing documents and traveling to the embassy, but there was also no mention of specific timelines or the need for a US visa in the official requirements. Why would we need Mexican visa to go to another country? Is it not like asking have you got any US visa before applying for Mexican visa? In addition, applying for a Mexican visa was straightforward and efficient, completed within a day, while the Guatemala visa process was stated to take two days. Futhtermore, the embassy would only accept US dollars in Belize, which seemed impractical. Rather than making it easier and quicker for customer, I assumed this opposite. Moreover, we had only planned to stay in Guatemala for a couple of nights, with a valid Mexican visa for another five months, which didn't align with any stipulations in the visa requirements. It's concerning to think that this requirement might have been an excuse to deny the visa. If not, I urge the government to investigate and enhance flexibility, avoiding unnecessary and confusing rules. The professionalism of the embassy staff is also in question. The lack of clear communication, inconvenience caused, and the use of a black window for processing further add to the frustration. All applicants pay $50 for the service, and it's reasonable to expect a more professional and customer-friendly approach. In my extensive travels to 18 different countries, I have never encountered such an awkward and annoying situation. The request for a photocopy of a credit card, including both sides and the PIN number, is particularly surprising. The explanation that it's to check spending capability raises concerns about privacy and security. This experience has been disappointing, and I hope the Guatemalan embassy can address these issues to ensure a smoother and more customer-centric visa application process.

What a poor experience! Traveled from UK to Belize for diplomatic purpose. I wanted to visit Guatemala 🇬🇹 for 2 - 3 days for a holiday. First day, I was given a list of documents which embassy required to apply Visa to Guatemala. Next day, I approached for visa with all the documents. The lady on reception took my documents and vanished for 90 mins. Later, she came to window and mentioned that I do not meet the requirements. I have asked the reasons with with calm. In return, she started making some unbelievable reasons such as; * Where is the maxican visa with minimum of 6 months validation? * Where is the US visa ? * Where is sponsorship letter? and so on. *!Further more, she has asked the copy of credit card (from & back). Overall experience was absolutely worst. The lady on the reception was very rude, unprofessional, bad on communication and knowledge. It is shame that these kind of people still work on the desk where it represent the entire Country of Guatemala 🇬🇹.
