::I celebrated a milestone birthday in Placencia in May 2025 with friends/family, and booked a dinner reservation at 1981. From the moment we walked in, I was amazed! The ambiance, the service, the attention to detail (including birthday balloons, card, and flowers at and above our table), and the food were all incredible!! John was a wonderful server, the food was so delicious, and the entire experience was a perfect ending to an amazing trip to Palencia! I would strongly recommend this restaurant, and I look forward to eating there the next time I'm in Belize!

::Beautiful restaurant inside Naia resort. Loved 1981 ceviche appetizer. Presented in coconut shell and served with 3 different kinds of chips. Fresh and delicious. For entree, lobster tail with traditional garlic butter was really good. It was cooked perfectly. However the special dish of the day was not so good. Tamarind pork, calamari, prawns with papaya slaw and potato wedges. Sounds good but only prawns tasted good and burre blanc was not done well. If you stay with ceviche (both conch carpaccio and 1981 ceviche were excellent), lobster tail, you will have a great dinner experience. Staff were so friendly! Our server Caesar was professional and food came out pretty fast.

::First off, service was fantastic, everyone was so kind and nice. Atmosphere is amazing, they have indoor seating with AC or outdoor seating with mosquitoes. The food was good, but nothing amazing. Some of it was just dry and not a ton of flavor. Although the lobster was fantastic! I’d go there more for the experience not for the food. Prices about $20-40 USD per plate. The chocolate lava cake dessert was so yummy!

::Went with a group of 12 and was impressed by how smoothly service went. We did not wait for drinks, water or anything requested. The specialty drinks are amazing with awesome presentation. The ceviche and smoked fish dip appetizers were fantastic. Ceviche was fresh and presented in a coconut bowl with homemade chips. Dinner was fish cooked in a banana leaf with citrus coleslaw and rice and beans cake. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Could have been easily shared, very large portions. Also had the slow cooked beef which had amazing depth of flavor. Again, could have fed two people, very rich and filling. Highly recommend. Dress light, no AC. They will bring out fans if you ask.
